Hello! Our names are Addison and Sammy. We are sisters!
We have had the opportunity to go on a 10-day dental humanitarian trip to the Dominican Republic.
Each day our group set up a clinic in a village and provided dental care and education to the wonderful Dominican and Haitian people.
We got to play with the kids!!! We played soccer, baseball, jump rope, painted fingernails, and made beaded necklaces together.
We felt an immediate loving bond with all of the kids there.
But while we were out in the villages… we noticed most people had no access to toilets and the communities had a complete lack of plumbing.
We mostly went to the bathroom in dirty latrines while we were out serving.
Most people in the Dominican Republic have access to only dirty and dangerous water. They don’t have transportation to get to clean water, or even enough money to purchase clean water. Drinking dirty water makes them extremely sick and sometimes desperately ill. Most have vomiting, diarrhea and disease.
Last year, almost a million people around the world, mostly small children, died from waterborne disease.
The Dominican kids are our friends. We love them. They are kids just like us, and they should have the right to access safe, clean, affordable water, no matter where they are and no matter who they are.
When we came home from our trip and got in our big bathtub full of clean, warm running water, we felt extremely blessed. We decided we wanted to raise money to help!
We have partnered with a charity organization called Healing Waters International. They find communities in need… and set up water purification and distribution systems! They are amazing!
Our greatest love is stuffed animals, so we decided to make and sell stuffed animals and donate all of the proceeds to Healing Waters.
(Thanks to the support of our Grandpa Anderson and the Smiles for Life Foundation, we are able to donate 100% of all proceeds.)
One water purification system costs $15,000. So that is our goal. Thank you for your help!
